President Cristina Fernández received yesterday a delegation of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association, headed by Hebe de Bonafini, and later met with the journalists accredited before the Government House
The Mothers, through Bonafini, gave Cristina a box with copies of all the ads they published during the military dictatorship.
"For me it is a very important present to receive what the Mothers did, because of its historical value”, said the President, during her later meeting with the journalists.
In her informal chat with the Government House correspondents, Cristina dealt with a number of subjects and gave details of the recent Mercosur Summit held in Montevideo, which she said “was very good”. She remarked the solid support given by its members to Argentina on the Malvinas issue, and reminded that the Foreign Office in London summoned today the Brazilian, Uruguayan and Paraguayan Ambassadors before the United Kingdom to demand explanations.
The President also announced that the new Argentine Ambassador before Britain could be appointed soon, but refused to give his name. The Argentine Embassy in London has been vacant since 2008.
Cristina informed that she plans to spend the Christmas holidays with her family in Río Gallegos, and said she was very happy with the birth two days ago of Néstor Ricardo, grandson of Minister Alicia Kirchner.
The President finally referred to Ivan Heyn, her Government’s Secretary of Foreign Trade, who died in Montevideo during the Mercosur Summit. She informed that yesterday she received Heyn´s girl friend and members of his family, to whom she handed the late economist’s personal computer.
Cristina was accompanied by Minister of the Interior, Florencio Randazzo; Legal and Technical Secretary, Carlos Zannini; Secretary General of the Presidency, Oscar Parrili; and Secretary of Communications, Alfredo Scoccimarro.
