The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, together with a delegation of Río Turbio miners and Economy Minister and Vice President elect Amado Boudou, took part yesterday in a demonstration of remembrance and homage to the late Néstor Kirchner in Plaza de Mayo, on the first anniversary of his death.
The historical Plaza was packed as numerous delegations of labor unions, youth organizations and political and social groups started arriving during the afternoon for a homage to the late former President.
“This is a very Argentine day, to honor a man who gave back its meaning to the word fatherland”, Boudou said.
The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, headed by Hebe de Bonafini, staged yesterday their weekly march at the Plaza, this time accompanied by a huge crowd, which included a colorful delegation of Río Turbio miners wearing their helmets. Hebe was invited to wear one.
“Nestor did not die. Did life go to hell? No, it was death that went there. A man like you cannot die, Néstor”, said Bonafini.
The Ministers of Industry Débora Giorgi, of Labor, Carlos Tomada and of Education, Alberto Sileoni, were also there, along with Socialist Congressman Jorge Rivas, who is confined to a wheelchair since the aggression he suffered in 2007 that left him handicapped.
“The passage of time only increases Kirchner´s importance in Argentine history”, said Giorgi.
Public Communications Secretary, Juan Abal Medina said that “when the right-wing seemed headed to get rid of the maim achievements of Peronism, Néstor and Cristina arrived to pull us out of the depths of hell and show us that a better fatherland is possible".
